Okay, so I have to admit that I wasn't looking forward to reviewing this score. Luckily it was one of those scores that surprise you and completely go against your expectations. Instead of getting another crappy horror score Wandmacher actually delivers a super entertaining listen. Piranha 3D is a gimmick movie, but from the way it looks it definitely knows that it's a gimmick movie. Clearly it won't take itself seriously and luckily neither does the score. I hate it when horror scores get up in their own ass and demand that they drive the car. When in reality if they looked over in the passenger seat I would be sitting there staring out the window with my arms crossed just waiting for this lame ride to be over.

Piranha 3D is more so an action horror score than it is a true horror score. Wandmacher uses a wonderful palette of sounds that give the score a rich and organic feel. It's definitely a layered score with some fun elements that are sure to bait and hook you (wow just realized I wrote that, but no pun intended). Wandermacher actually uses an electric guitar in some of the heavy action cues, which will either make you smile or cringe depending on what kind of person you are. I actually chuckled. Other than that there isn't much else to it. It's a score that plays out at face value.

This is an action horror score that knows exactly what it is. It's definitely not a forgettable score though. It has a unique voice and does in fact create a unique atmosphere, which is rare for these throwaway type of horror movies. Again, if you're looking for a good time this is recommended. Don't take it seriously because it certainly didn't and your guaranteed to have a good time.
