Cinematic Themes Suites by Aníbal Alonso (Review)

Every now and then you come across cinematic music that isn't composed for picture, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't inspire picture. Thus is the case with Aníbal Alonso's suites. Up and coming composers have it hard because they are trying to make a voice for themselves yet have to appeal to so many standards and expectations. What Aníbal has done here is craft a series of suites that have a unique voice yet conjure up images and atmosphere or grand stories.

The tracks on the album are produced using samples and synths, and while it may hinder the scope of what the composer is trying to realize here there is no shortage of great execution. The suites are well structured to let the themes and motifs do their jobs. The tracks help craft the story and the melodic themes help keep the music grounded. The later tracks have a better feel in my opinion and succeed much more overall. Overall these are great soundscapes and are great building blocks to start out with.

Aníbal Alonso's Cinematic Themes Suites are available on iTunes, Amazon MP3 and CD Baby. If anyone is looking for a unique voice with expert structure and execution I highly recommend checking this little album out.
